Dragon Valley

A simple shrine sits above Darya-e Adjahar ('dragon valley'). This sharp cleft in the rock marks where Ali, the first Shia Imam, killed a dragon with one blow of his sword, Zulfiqar. At least, that's the legend. Below, the dusty air of the Bamiyan valley sits under the peaks of central Afghanistan.
