A Stylite Home

Qalaat Semaan - the 'castle of Simeon', near to Aleppo in northwest Syria. Saint Simeon the Stylite ('pillar-dweller') lived here in the fifth century. More specifically, he lived on top of a column (now just this eroded stump). For nearly forty years.
